Blackboard

September 22nd, 2008 by Morgan

I have no clue what is going on with Blackboard at school but it seems to always be down. How is it that the students can never seem to access it when they need it? My roommates and friends are always yelling at their laptops because they can not turn in homework and sometimes it takes hours for us to be able to get to the page! What is going on?

I am going to have to hunt down an IT guy to explain this all to me. I don’t understand how we had only a few problems last year with the website and now this year, it seems that almost every day it is down for hours and hours at a time so I can never turn in my homework! Its like a horrible guessing game that I am losing at… badly.

I’m tired, its been a long weekend. JUST WORK PLEASE! I just want to send my homework in so I can go to bed. What is the point of working for hours on something and not being able to turn it in when you try to on time? Not cool Blackboard. Not cool.

First few days back

September 9th, 2008 by Morgan

I must say, its been crazy meeting all these new freshmen who read my blog. It is really strange to walk around and have random strangers come up to me and be like, you write the blog? Ya, I read that!

I’ve been asked if its hard to write about myself to the world. It was at first. I was also asked if I make it extra juicy. Lol, no, I do not. I do tame it down sometimes and leave out names so no one gets harmed… except me! lol.

Alright, so what have I been up to these past few days? I’ve been unpacking, going to class, and sleeping like crazy because I of course got sick soon  as I landed in Florida. Don’t forget the partying with my sisters! There was a Greek party on Sunday to welcome all new students. I had so much fun. I got to see a lot of my sisters and chill with my friends… and of course, take lots of pictures! Check them out.

No changes

September 3rd, 2008 by Morgan

Thank goodness there will be no changes (so far) due to Hanna showing up right when school starts. I am looking forward to meeting all the new freshmen and seeing my friends again, that if I have to order Hanna away, I will! So not in the mood! I want to get back to Boca! I want to move in and see my friends. I miss college. :(

Don’t forget to check out www.lynn.edu/hurricane. Also check out Hurricane Information Web page. All students should keep their cell phones close to them as well as check mylynn every few hours.

Students traveling with their families, just print out the emails and hand it to a parent. No questions, just answers! How great is that? lol.

Were’s the hold up? Parking!

August 29th, 2008 by Morgan

This is mostly for returning students.

I was trying to check in on MyLynn, when it said that I had a hold. I was  like, ahhh, how in the world do I have a hold on my account? Well it was  in parking. So I called the school and asked what was up with that, since even Cristina has a hold on parking, and she doesn’t have a car. Well security informed me that each year we have to fill out a form (click here for the form) for parking. Why, I do not understand, but we must! So I filled out the form and sent it in. Now I am just waiting for the ok that will allow me to check in.  Problem solved!

I can not wait to get back on campus! Oh its almost to hard to stand, all this waiting! The 6th seems so far away! I am looking forward to seeing Ashlea so I can tell her happy birthday in person and give her a hug! Classes start up on the 8th and I still feel that is way to long to wait for my first class. Yes, I was the kid in middle school that loved the first day of school. But the first day of college, 15 times better! lol.

Cristina just flew down there this morning, which makes me jealous. She’s already in the beautiful Florida sun. Rob texts me every day about what we are going to do when we back. I’m not quite sure when I plan on sleeping for the first month. Between new science classes, to hanging out with my friends, to blog meetings! Oh boy, So busy and I could not be happier to be busy once again. Then work starts up! Yes! Teaching again. I miss the kids hyper happy little faces while they learn new skills which to them look crazy, but for us coaches are old news.  (Now that thought makes me feel old!)

School, dorm life, sisters, friends, parties, movies, dinners.  So much to look forward too! Ooo… and my car. Can’t forget the car, which probably will be very cranky and won’t start once I get back.  Oh well, work on that when I get there. Back to Boca Raton. Back to the lovely sun and the bright open space. Oh so much to look forward too!

Hmm, still got to go shopping for cool dorm stuff! This year, I have two wonderful roomates who want to have the best room on the floor. (No pressure there! lol.)

College Catastrophe…

August 21st, 2008 by Morgan

Hello Freshmen! In a few days, bright happy students from across the globe will be traveling to Lynn for their first day of college!

Brace yourself! If you haven’t filled out all your paperwork, you might see more of the school gym then you ever want to on your first day.

I remember my first day, my mother left me to go to my room! I was stuck in the gym for four hours with a horrible ear infection and tired from the lack of sleep. I kept thinking, if this is what college is all about, I’m ready to go home! There were people everywhere! Every inch of the gym was covered in people.

Bring one parent with you in the gym, that might help. Have the other, (hint hint) go to your room and set it up for you.

Play nicely with all the students you find around campus early… they came back to school a week early for YOU. Oh, and which ever group gets Cristaina or Samara for their student leader, lucky you guys! Mine was my sister Shannon… who I love so much! I remember watching the movies on binge drinking and people walking in and out of the lab like 20 times just to say hello to Shannon. I remember thinking, she knows everyone! Then she told me that most of them were her sisters, which made me want to be a Tri Sigma.

I’m so looking forward to getting back to school, meeting new students, hearing exciting stories, and of course, meeting up with my roommates, the guys, and my sisters!

Now, for the first few days, lets try not to have the fire department come to campus too often… freshmen. Or the cops. My first weekend on campus, there were something like three drug over doses and two stomach pumping’s due to alcohol. Oh and guess what, it gets better, they never made it to their first class in college! Why? Because they got kicked out. Way to make a family proud. That was just the first weekend.

There were many kids getting caught doing drugs or drinking the first few weeks. The cops were always dragging some kid out of their room, calling their parents to come get the student, because they were no longer welcomed on campus.

Come on people! Going wild the first 48 hours is NOT a good idea. I know how much your parents are paying for college, so try not to make them have to fly back and pick you up before Monday morning. Do you really want your parents coming back to Boca because you had to get your stomach pumped and your roommate had to dial 911 to get help for you?

Do however party it up in your own room by putting posters up, making some ground rules when it comes to the room, and well, start talking to everyone you pass! Meet your RA. Ask them questions. I loved my RA’s, and the RA’s in my Freiburger building. The RD’s are pretty cool too, and full of great advice for students in organizations trying to advertise. A lot of the RA’s are Greek…. hint hint. They know when all the cool stuff on campus are happening as well as the local parties at the clubs and at houses… but just don’t come home drunk, or they will card you, write you up, and well…. they won’t be very happy.

Ooo, good idea. Check out where your classes are before Monday! Man, the first few weeks, I was always lost! I would stand right in the middle of campus and not know which way was my class and which way was my room. Everywhere there was a lake and shinny buildings.

Have a car? Think about getting a GPS. Florida is pretty much roads that all look the same, long and full of trees. My mom gave me hers before she left for Iraq, so I’m excited, I’m never going to get lost again! lol. No more “road trips” with Cristina, more like aww man, we are here!

Check out what the nurse can do for you! I don’t think I’ve ever been so sick so many times than when I started college. Get to know the school nurse! They are caring and loving, although, every once in awhile, you might want to go see a doctor who can run total labs on you and who knows what… sometimes the nurse gets it wrong… like when when they told one of the guys he was pregnant. Lol. I’m sure his frat brothers are still trying to figure that one out…

Now to party, you are in college! I can not wait to get back to campus. Ugh, it feels so far away! I miss college life, I miss my friends. I can’t wait to show Rob the present I got him! I am looking forward to decorating my room with my two awesome roomies and as well as hugging Michelle, welcoming her to dorm life! Thank goodness I share most of my classes with Michelle! I love my lab partner, hehe. When one of us is missing, it feels like the longest class in the world. Plus, she makes all labs a ton of fun.

So, welcome to Lynn! I can’t wait to meet all of you! Freshmen, transfers, and returning students! Oh the excitement of college! So much to do and so much to look forward too this year. One year down, three more to go!

Beach Weather

April 21st, 2008 by Morgan

Today would be the perfect day to chill at the beach or beside the pool. The temp is perfect for a relaxing day out, playing under the sun, or having a BBQ. Damn these classes! Go away so I can play!

Its one of the best days I’ve seen in at least 3 weeks and I wish I could take advantage of this beautiful sunshine!

Oh well, I guess the One Republic concert should go well then. Wonderful weather for an outside concert I guess. I won’t know, I’ve never been to a concert before.

How to tramatize the average college student

April 18th, 2008 by Morgan
  • Call them in class and tell them that their car needs to be moved. Today I got a call telling me that I needed to move my car because of the One Republic concert on monday. They are trying to set up and a bunch of cars were in the way. Just give me a heart attack why don’t you!
  • Inform them of all the information that they thought they knew, was wrong. I thought I knew the basics of genetics. Honestly, what in the world do they teach us in high school??? I have never been more confused in my life of what makes a male and a female. XY, XXY, ZW,XO, haploid, diploid. Lord, and its a gene here on this chromosome… *shakes head* I like the old system, you know the one in first grade on the playground, “boys have cooties”, ya lets go back to that one.
  • Inform the class that their exam starts at 8am… when normally the class starts at 9am. Watch the confusion spread like wild fire.
  • Set the alarm for 8am, and it does not go off so the student has a panic attack at 10:05am wondering what happened. Honestly, how in the world could I miss that annoying sound first thing in the morning??? I hate alarm clocks! They are evil I tell you!
  • Give out half the information to the student population and watch the rumors fly. How many people were confused about J-term and the Foreign Language department??? A meeting had to be called for the whole student body just to get everything in order.
  • Have the RA bang on a student’s door and loudly announce it’s them after quiet hours. I had a Health and Safety inspection a few days ago at like 11pm. It scared the living daylights out of me! I was like, I’m only watching TV and doing work on my laptop, what could I have done wrong??? Traj and Iggy realized I was seriously confused and just told me it was health and safety. I was like ooooh, ok come in. If they had come 20 minutes later, I would have been fast asleep and even more confused.

Its ok to make mistakes

April 8th, 2008 by Morgan

Freshmen 101 tip: Its ok to make mistakes.

Its now close to the end of this school year, I can now look back and see a lot of things. I can see that when I first got to Lynn, I was sure that everything was going to be perfect. That everything was going to be great. I guess I was hoping that being an adult was going to be easy. Boy was I wrong.

Its ok to make mistakes! Doesn’t it seem like your parents make everything look so easy? Well lets not forget that they had a head start. They made the mistakes already, or at least we would hope, they have had time to perfect the art of being an adult. Well, at least we hope they are a lot better at it then the average college student!

I remember in high school how I was scared to make a mistake and of course, being the typical teenager, my first thought would be, “My mother is going to kill me!” Since day one, I’ve made who knows how many mistakes. From losing information, forgetting to drop off my laundry, over sleeping, not doing a homework assignment (or two), let my account get into the negative, fought with my friends when I shouldn’t, got a speeding ticket, locked myself out of my room (twice), pissed off my floor with my alarm clock, left food out and got ants one day, didn’t back up my files and so when my laptop crashed I had nothing, starting to get the picture?

I don’t know what I would do without my mom. I used to be close to my mom when I was at home, but I think I got a whole lot closer to my mother on a new level once I got to college.  Now I call her when I’m stressed out, when I’m having a good day or a bad day, when I just need to talk, when I’m homesick, and when I mess up royally. I’m also getting to see a new side of my mom. She’s more supportive than I ever thought she would be. lol. Sounds mean, but when I was at home, I was always scared to get into trouble, but now I know that my mother will be upset, but she’ll still support me and help me through whatever it is I have gotten myself this time. She has really surprised me since I’ve gotten to college. A lot of stuff I was sure I was never going to get passed the yelling, and yet, she never raised her voice once but informed me that I was just learning a life lesson and that this too would pass. The first time she didn’t yell at me or give me a lecture I nearly fainted.

And thank goodness for friends! Between me and my three friends, we make a lot of mistakes but we’ve got each others backs. College can be scary if you are all alone. We learn from each other which is great and we support each other. Between Cristina working herself to death, Rob not being able to focus some nights and just needing someone else to type for him, and Eric to have somone on him about cleaning his room and doing his homework, we are always there for each other.

Its ok to make mistakes. As long as you are learning from them. Being an adult is not as easy as it seems. I’m starting to think that college is four years of trying to figure out yourself, your future, how the world works and where you fit into it. Don’t be so hard on yourself when you first get to college, make mistakes, learn from them, and move on.

One crazy weekend

April 7th, 2008 by Morgan

My weekend rocked. It started friday night and kept on going. Now its monday morning… how in the world did that happen???

Friday night, I heard a bunch of giggly girls outside and I was like what the, its not even 9:30 yet! Where are they going? Turns out, they weren’t going any where, they were coming in and they weren’t girls. Six female alumne were standing outside my door all happy and hyper. I could hear them saying my name as they knocked. I opened to them gigglying and screaming with joy which only lead me into more confusion. Why are strangers outside my door on a friday night???

I had totally forgotten that it was alumni weekend. I was sick, my throat seems to be filled with tennis balls and my voice running far far away from me. So now I’m standing at my door, looking at 6 women old enough to be my mother, giggling at my door while I’m wearing who knows what as PJ’s.

One starts telling me that 20 years ago, she used to live in my room. AHA! Now I know whats going on! She’s holding a friends hand and they are just so happy. The four in the back seem to huddle together like its middle school all over again for them. I’m in a daze from a fever and so in my mind, I’m going insane. I was sure the end of the world was coming near.

So the two in front keep going on about how they used to live in my room and I kind of just nod, not really hearing them, while one of the four in the back keeps saying, “its not even 9:30″ and looking at me funny. I start getting frustrated and think to myself, what in the world is that supposed to mean??? Another one whispers to the other one, “maybe she’s not alone?!” and I hear the other three start oooing. I finally speak up.

“No, I have a FEVER! I was SLEEPING!” Suddenly, they all realized that they had intruded on my personal space and started to retreat. They apologized like crazy and scrambled away. Ask my friends, I’m not a very nice sick person. Better yet, ask my mother. lol. I really do not like to be disturbed when I’m sleeping and even worse when I’m sick.

I was cool with the Alumne coming to see their old rooms, but I got a little ticked off with their friends commentinig on my life. Luckily, I was sane enough to know to hold my tongue. They were going on and on about why I was so sleepy at 9:30 at night. I was starting to think it was a crime to get some rest on a weekend.

On Saterday, Tri Sigma had a lunch for the Alumne Sigma’s. It was AWSOME!!!! I wished they could have staid longer! Six of them showed up… hey, whats with the number six? lol. A.D.D. moment. Anyway, six of them showed up. They were so nice and so… amazing! A chapter founder showed up! How cool is that? She spoke about starting the chapter at Lynn and how it was a lot of hard work but coming back to see that it is still going strong made her really happy, which in turn, made us really happy to know that we were doing a good job. We took pictures and talked… and the birds ate the veggies. Do not ask why, but our birds at Lynn are a little crazy. We got attacked by birds for carrots! Come on  now!

Having the six sisters come back was a great moment for me. They want to help us so much, teach us songs, and give us information, tips, or tricks that will help us in many area’s of Sigma. Plus, I got to spend time with my sisters which is always cool. I must say, my life would be a little boring without a little Shannan, Janae, Lauren F., and Sam in my life each day. My sisters rock.

Now sunday, that was a lazy day! I slept in late, washed clothes with Cristina, went to dinner with Eric, and chilled with Rob and Cristina in Rob’s room. What more could I ask for from a sunday? It was perfect! Cristina was helping me with my homework, yes, she rocks like that. It pays to have a sexy nerd as a best friend. lol. Rob was being goofy but always helpful. He carried my bag of clean clothes to my room for me! hehe. That bag was HUGE! As Iggy the RD said when he saw it, “that’s a LOT of clothes!” I just had to laugh.

I can not honestly tell you what Rob, Cristina, and I were talking about last night. We were being our usual selves…. if that says anything. We watched some video’s on YouTube and I took a quiz for Geo Political which Cristina thought was a game. Lol. Apparently guessing the answers to my quiz questions is fun for her. I on the other hand like to know the ANSWERS. haha.

Ah, now its monday. Where did the weekend go?
