Saying Good Bye
A lot of my friends and sisters are graduating this weekend. Its sad to say good bye to everyone.
A long list of my sisters will be handed their diploma, 4 years of hard work and 4 years of being great sisters. It’s sad to see them go, but its great to see them moving on with their lives.
It is also scary for me. How have two years flown by? That means I only have two years left!
At the moment, I am enjoying a mini vacation at the Marriott near Lynn, soon as I get back summer classes! It will be Zoology and Animal Science!
Gongrats class of 2009! *sniff sniff* Come back to visit us at Lynn for Alumni Weekend!
Exams and Summer Plans
The end of this week starts Exam week. I have an exam on Thursday for Human Anatomy. So not exciting. *sigh* exams are a very stressful time of year at in the spring because for freshmen and sophomores, it means moving out of the dorms. Seniors are nervous and excited about graduation just being days away and having family flying in from all over the planet. Sophomores and juniors are fighting with the housing board to let them move off campus. Oh what a wonderful but very busy time of year!
I am still planning on what I am doing for summer vacation. It keeps changing due to new information coming in each day which only complicates things. Originally, I was suppose to go to Brazil to see Michelle for a week, then come back and spend time at home, get a summer job, and chill with the cats until my mother returned home from Iraq. Now its looking more like summer courses. I need 3 courses to get into vet school that Lynn does not offer.
Something that I have learned since I have been in college is that no one just tells you what to do anymore when it comes to your education. It’s YOUR education. I meet or email my adviser a few times a semester to make sure that I am on track. I just had an hour long meeting about my future and that is when I realized that I needed to take these summer courses this summer not next summer. Thus, the change in plans. I also need 400 hours of clinical work, but I am not worried, for there is the Career Center on campus that can help me. I have realized this year that I must be pro active in my college career. If I want to take a course, I have to speak up when I’m planning my schedule with my adviser, they aren’t mind readers.
The power of email. It is so important now and days when talking to professors. Recently, one of my professors forgot to print out my handouts for my final project. She was going to print them out in color for students that asked ahead of time. I had asked her a week in advance in person, as well as emailed her back and forth. She forgot the day of my presentation, but because there were emails for proof that I had asked for them, my grade was not affected.
Well, I must go back to looking for summer courses. I have to find the courses online because I could not find any of the courses that I need in DC, apparently they don’t like animals or vets there and my mother insists that I come home this summer, that I’m never home and don’t spend time with her. Funny, cause here I was thinking she was never home due to being in a war zone.
Freezing water
About the freezing cold shower I just took… thanks Lynn University.
Randomly around here, the hot water will go out… sometimes for days. I cannot explain to you how much this sucks today of all days. I have a serious chest cold and that cold shower just made it worse. Needless to say, that was not the reaction I was hoping for when I thought of the shower. Now I feel stiff and sore and coughing even more. I was hoping a hot shower was going to relax my flu suffering body and make the cough easier.
So back to the fact that the hot water randomly goes out. No email, not even a sign. The night before I left for spring break, it was like this, and now that I’m back, its like it again. Although, the first night back, it was hot as could be! The whole bathroom was filled with steam, it could have been the opening to Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
I could not tell you if the hot water heater was just not working or how many buildings were suffering from this problem. Nothing. A little help please?!
I remember this happening once my freshman year. The water heater was broken for about 4 days, but we never had the problem again last year. Now it seems to be 3 times a month, and well, I don’t know about anyone else, but that is about 2 times to many for me to not protest.
Spring Break in Baton Rouge
I’m spending my spring break in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Exciting stuff. I have tons of photos but no time to load them onto my computer!
Lynn University has their spring break a little early, so everyone I know that doesn’t got to Lynn, still have classes. I’m visiting one of my friends from high school, Jarrod, but he’s got midterms this week so today he’s a little busy trying to get some studying in.
Oh I forgot to mention, I’m at LSU. Its a great school, with abou 30,000 students. I can’t even picture going here. I get lost in the dorms! The school is so beautiful, the campus is filled with great buildings and willow trees. There are students everywhere you look and the dorms are constantly full of noise at any hour of the day. Just being here for a few days is making me miss Lynn and the environment at Lynn.
Here, it is extreme security. I guess it is a must when there are 30,000 students, but at Lynn, at least you can easily go see your friends! Or just go to the rest room! At LSU, you need a key to get into the hallway you live on, and it does not work on any other floor, (not so at lynn, if you live in that building, you can get into any wing of that building so you can easily go see your friends.) I got stuck in a stairwell for 25 minutes because my friend didn’t hear his phone and you can’t get out of the stairwell without a key unless exiting the building into the freezing cold. Then you need a key to get into the restroom. Its crazy!
Well, I’m off to get some quick studying in myself and then maybe find something to eat.
Speeding for class
A lot of times, students will come in saying that they got stopped by campus security or the cops on the way to class and the professor will let them off easy (of course with proof) because they feel bad. Yes, students are so worried about getting in trouble with their professors, they would rather be given a ticket than to show up late.
Well, today, I was shocked to find out that one of my classmates got a ticket on his way to class… and now has to go to jail because of his speeding.
I for one know how hard it is to get up in the morning sometimes for my early classes, but my oh my, speeding so fast you have to go to jail? Wow. I was shocked at first, but now, wow. I feel bad for the guy. I mean ya, he was speeding, but that is just a bad morning! Plus, he was still late to class.
There is toilet paper!
I was walking around campus today and guess what I came across? The toilet paper is back! although, it is not just in the bathrooms anymore, its in the halls now too. So yes, I am very excited! Its back. So glad that got started up again, now I know what is going on on campus!
Enjoying life
Lately I have been enjoying myself at Lynn. Today I went to the school’s coffee shop, Christines, with Cristina. I am def noticing the change in work load since freshmen year. Now back for my second semester as a sophomore, I am feeling the pressure to do more in shorter amounts of time and well, it gets rough some times.
But like I said, I am enjoying my time at Lynn and enjoying life. Tri Sigma had a Super Bowl theme meeting the other night. I don’t remember ever having a theme for a meeting before, but we sure did enjoy it, pizza and all.
Now that I have a good few months under my belt, I am starting to think about study abroad. Junior year will be here faster than I ever expected, I know that much, so I am trying to plan ahead. My only problem is I can’t figure out what I am going to do! I am going to stop by the study abroad office some time this week or next to figure out what Lynn offers.
Oh! And my room is all set up now! It looks wonderful and feels like a place I can relax in now, not like a cell anymore. I had some help getting my new room set up, and the bribes were worth it! I love how everything is set up.
Oh and another thing! Did anyone check out the last home game for basketball? We had 99 points, one point away from an even 100. My friends and I were going nuts over the one point. We wanted to see it go into the hundreds but oh well, we won! It was a great game as always. I love sporting events at school, Lynn students and staff go wild at all the games. No matter if we are winning or losing, there are people screaming, chanting, laughing, dancing, its just crazy!
Well, homework calls. Like I said, sophomore year is just a little more demanding than my freshmen year…. man, if only I knew how easy I had it!
No toilet paper
The toilet paper is a news paper that are in all the bathrooms around school, or well, they should be in all the bathrooms around the school. It has all the upcoming events going on around the school and the holidays that are in the next few days. Only, it seems that the toilet paper has stopped being published. I for one have not seen an up to date one in weeks and if there are any even in one of the bathrooms around school, they are months old. Hmm, I wonder what is going on? I really liked it, because the toilet paper news sheet was simple, colorful and well, straight to the basics of it all, great events. So… can we get that running again?
Back online
I finally have my laptop back! I’m so happy. I’ve missed having it. My hand is killing me from writing out all my notes and stuff when I could have just as easily put a star next to something on my laptop on the slide. Laptops make college easier!
Broken Laptop
I haven’t gone missing, I just broke my laptop. I should be getting it back tomorrow or something like that. I have so much to blog about! International travel, crazy roommates, chillin with my favorite sorority sister, also finding out who my little is in Tri Sigma!
In other words, more to come. Even the craziness of being a bio major and the trouble we get into in labs! I’m pretty sure Professor Ahmed is happy that it is the end of the semester, he gets a few weeks off from over excited teenagers. What can I say? We love what we do! Being a bio major rocks!
