President Ross and the New Blog Squad

by Morgan | September 2, 2009

Today had a very unusual lunch. I had lunch with President Ross of Lynn University along with all the bloggers. It was our first chance as bloggers to all sit down together to meet each other in our new roles. It is fun to see who I will be working side by side with online for the school year. I knew some already on a personal note.

It was a little strange to meet everyone while meeting the president of our university. No pressure or anything! I have heard President Ross speak many times over the last two years at school and he is a wonderful speaker. I personally think that his age and dreams for Lynn work for him. Who cares if the other universities have guys in their 70’s, when they were in college, our parents weren’t even alive, so what do they know about today’s generation?  He told us about his college years while asking us about how ours were going, even if it was only really day 5 for one of us, Kerri. President Ross has a great gift to walk into a room and make everyone feel comfortable. I found out just a few days ago, he risked embrassment  and put on his dancing shoes for a good cause, scholarships for college students. Aparently, he’s willing to do things out of his norm infront of 500 people or get twitter (after Jason, our boss creates it for him and teaches him how to use it.) for his students. I wonder what he will be twittering about? Hmm, I guess that might mean I would have to create a twitter acount myself.

When I first got the email that the president wanted to have lunch with the bloggers, I laughed at the email, not believing it. I read it over again and thought about it. A man that is so busy, a student has to request a meeting weeks in advance is openly asking the bloggers  to lunch? Plus, he was a huge fan of bloggers? I was shocked, then I was nervous, what was I going to wear!? lol. I just couldn’t believe he wanted to meet with the bloggers.

I was on my way to his office when he was heading towards me with other students, which one kept saying “Christines” over and over again, which to me ment the coffee shop, not thinking about the Christines meeting room, so I was wondering why I needed to follow Dr. Ross as he got coffee when we were supposed to be meeting upstairs in his conference room. (Later, I found the text message that was supposed to inform me of that, my phone was already on silent by this point.)

The food was great, but it seemed hardly any of us touched it from trying to keep up with the conversation. I know that was my reason, that and I didn’t want to drop food on myself from not fully paying attention since I saw Jason was fully prepared with his camera in the back of the room.

After tons of questions about our lives, where we were all from, what we wanted from Lynn, what he wanted from Lynn, I could finally see why this man is paid the big bucks. He really wants the best for Lynn University. I think if he had more time, he would spend more time just sitting around, listening to students and personally letting us in on his vision for Lynn. Just listening to him talk about everything that is planned for this school year explained a lot of why half the school looks like its being dug up. The tennis courts are being moved as well as the outside basketball courts.  New lights are being put in. There are just so many small to large projects happening across the campus.

At the end of the day, I am excited that we have such a cool university president. Dr. Kevin Ross just wants to be open to change, ideas, and standing out from other universities. He has only been at this for 4 years at Lynn, which I was shocked to learn. Aparently I was informed this my freshmen year, but honestly, my thoughts weren’t on how long the president had been at the university or his plans, more like, so where is this class again and how much is the textbook??? By the way President Ross, if you are reading this, is there anything you could do about those biology book prices? I’ve also heard the business degree books are up there as well…. just a thought.

The formal lunch may have ended at 12:20, but that didn’t stop the bloggers from talking at mad speed for another hour. No one seemed to hold back their questions for each other, most being new at the school blogging gig. I got to meet Natalie, the soccer player, plus new blogger. I was really excited to meet her since I love soccer and love watching the games. Last year when we were talking about adding more bloggers, one being an athlete, I was praying it was a sport that I liked so I would actually read it. Aftering meeting Natalie, and walking over to the gym with her in the heavy rain, I am every excited to read her blog! She is really cool, fun, and an awsome soccer player. I met Kerri the newest to Lynn and the new youngest on the blog squad. Yes! Its not me anymore! No more teasing… at least about that. Gene will find something by the next meeting. ( I dont’ mind, just happy he’s healthy! Read his blog about his scary summer health issue.) Then there was JD, who has been talking about blogging for a while, now he’s up and online! Writing in spanish, so I have no clue what he’s saying. lol. I got to sit next to my sister Steph, who is now a blogger, here, there, everywhere! She is busy promoting disablity awareness month next month that she has created at Lynn. (She started planning it her freshmen year! She thinks big.)  I talked to the two Ryan’s and Kevin for a few minutes before they ran to class due to the rain.

I am looking forward to working side by side with the new blog squad as well as reading what they have to say. Check us all out at http://blogs.lynn.edu/.

Lets try something new

by Morgan | May 30, 2009

I just got an idea. How about some incoming freshmen or their lovely parents email me questions they have about Lynn. I always write what I think is helpful, but maybe I’m missing some information.

So fire away! email me at manderson5@email.lynn.edu!

I’m excited, lets see what happens! I wonder what questions I haven’t thought of yet? Hmm….

Triple Threat

by Morgan | October 27, 2008

I’m looking forward to this friday. My roommates and I have planned a girls day. No boys! lol.

Shopping, lunch, a movie. We have tons of stuff planned for friday. We  are all busy, so we are taking this time to reconnect, to become closer, and well… shop!

I live with my best friend and a friend who is getting close to that best friend status. Sometimes we just need a girls day to remember why we love each other so much and why we chose to be roommates.

I would say where we are going to eat and shop, but I’m pretty sure that would cause my mother to close all my accounts that day. Haha.

By the way, my sister Michelle is the best sister in the world. I don’t know what I would do without her in my life.

Alright, off to bed with me. I’m sure my dancing at my desk as I type this is making Cristina laugh into her pillow.

Hey blog squad, get your rest, photo shoots tomorrow! That means 20 minutes in my closet trying to figure out what to wear tomorrow… oh boy.

Health 101

by Morgan | October 6, 2008

I  found this awesome website while bored on Mylynn. Yes, it is working right now. Anyway, this website is called Health 101. It is pretty cool, I had fun  flipping through the website. Plus, I think it is wonderful for all freshmen or high school seniors.

So all lynn students, check out the home page of Mylynn, you can find a bunch of fun stuff on there. I normally skip right to the email section and then to my classes to do homework, but I think from now on, I might spend more time looking at the home page!

First few days back

by Morgan | September 9, 2008

I must say, its been crazy meeting all these new freshmen who read my blog. It is really strange to walk around and have random strangers come up to me and be like, you write the blog? Ya, I read that!

I’ve been asked if its hard to write about myself to the world. It was at first. I was also asked if I make it extra juicy. Lol, no, I do not. I do tame it down sometimes and leave out names so no one gets harmed… except me! lol.

Alright, so what have I been up to these past few days? I’ve been unpacking, going to class, and sleeping like crazy because I of course got sick soon  as I landed in Florida. Don’t forget the partying with my sisters! There was a Greek party on Sunday to welcome all new students. I had so much fun. I got to see a lot of my sisters and chill with my friends… and of course, take lots of pictures! Check them out.

No changes

by Morgan | September 3, 2008

Thank goodness there will be no changes (so far) due to Hanna showing up right when school starts. I am looking forward to meeting all the new freshmen and seeing my friends again, that if I have to order Hanna away, I will! So not in the mood! I want to get back to Boca! I want to move in and see my friends. I miss college. :(

Don’t forget to check out www.lynn.edu/hurricane. Also check out Hurricane Information Web page. All students should keep their cell phones close to them as well as check mylynn every few hours.

Students traveling with their families, just print out the emails and hand it to a parent. No questions, just answers! How great is that? lol.

New Freshmen

by Morgan | May 27, 2008

I have been getting a bunch of emails from new freshmen and their parents. It’s awsome! I love it.

For those of you who are curious about greek life, it is amazing. I love my sisters so much, and the frat boys are a ton of fun to hang out with. I am still sad that I missed Tie Date with the ZBT’s. If you aren’t sure, come to rush week. See what the greeks are about, meet a few of us, ask a ton of questions, and see if it is you. Its the best way to learn about the greeks.

BSU is awsome too. A smaller group, not only for Black Students, who love BBQ’s and helping kids. We plan a bunch of activies for children each year, bring in guest speakers and have a ball at each meeting. I think we spend 75% of our time cracking jokes in meetings. Of course we get stuff done, but we have the most fun doing it. BSU is really laxed. I’m trying to grow it for next year and maybe have a few more BBQ’s and bands come in. The guys were talking about having a poetry night…. of course with a band at the end to dance the night away.

Remember, all incoming students and parents of new freshmen can email me at manderson5@email.lynn.edu

Ask me questions, its what I’m here for! I’ve already lived my freshmen year, made the mistakes, ask me the questions so you make less mistakes, spend less time fixing your mistakes, and spend more time enjoying being a freshmen at Lynn.

Relay For Life!

by Morgan | March 19, 2008

Tonight in Sigma, we talked about Relay for Life, which shocked me to know that there are only 24 more days left until it is here! I know everyone has been working really hard on Relay for Life. I would like encourage people to donate money since it goes to help find a cure for cancer. Just think about it, if everyone who reads my blog donated $5, we could help people fight the battle against Cancer.

One of my sisters mom had cancer. I know a lot of poeple who have had cancer. Just a few days ago, I found out that some one I knew a few years ago, who lived next door to me, died of cancer a few months ago. I am so thankful that my sisters have been working so hard for months to make this event go well. I hear it is a lot of fun and a great way to bond with other students.

If you have facebook, check out what we are doing at Lynn to get prepared for the big day!

Busy Busy Busy

by Morgan | February 21, 2008

Today has been a seriously busy day. I am just now slowing down at 10:23pm. Not a normal day for me. I want to say congrats to Tauran (who is one of my sisters) for her efforts in the Monopoly game tonight. Awsome turn out! Just, did we have enough to break a world record? That, I still do not know, but will find out so I can tell the world! lol. It was a lot of fun and I met a guy named JD who is going to be a Lynn  Blogger soon. I was shocked, to meet him but it was a lot of fun getting to know him. Here’s hoping to see him as one of our new bloggers in the next couple of weeks!

So I am doing a ton of stuff for Black  Student Union that needs to be done right away which is keeping me very busy. I don’t know how I am going to get everything I need to get done tomorrow. Holiday season is the worst time. There are never enough hours before a break! Spring break starts March 1st.

Uh oh, my stomach is empty. I better go get some food before I go to bed. Plus, I have a lot to do before I can even get to bed!
