A Sanctuary
Recently I’ve realized that the hallway outside of my room has become a sort of sanctuary for me, a place to be alone. It seems like such a public place, but in actuality, very few people pass by. We’re at the very end of one hallway and we aren’t on the way to any major sets of stairs, so it’s usually very quiet. Lately, I’ve been going out there to do homework (especially in the morning if I have to type something so I don’t disturb my roommates), to write poetry, and to talk on the phone. I have different places for each action, too. When I do homework, I lean against one hall with my laptop in my lap. When I write poetry, I sit in the corner next to the window. When I’m on the phone, I walk back and forth in continuous circles. It’s really kind of relaxing, which is likely why I go out there about once a day. Sometimes, you just have to be alone and that hallway is pretty perfect for solitude.
