Nobel Peace Prize

February 27th, 2008 at 8:57 pm by Jana

Brittany, Alyssa, and I decided tonight while we were in our honors seminar (the subject of which is science this year) that we are going to win the Nobel Peace Prize. At first, we weren’t sure how we were going to do it, but I had a brilliant idea (because only brilliancy can win such an esteemed prize): We will fill in the gaps in the ozone layer! He told the class, in answer to a question, that we actually create ozone with electrical sparks. The smell that comes from it is ozone. All we have to do is create a bunch of really large sparks. We may have to set fire to the world, but anything for science, right?

Actually, there is a Nobel Peace Prize.

In 1993 it was won by Nelson Mandela and F.W. De Klerk (both have been South African presidents. They won the prize for their efforts to end Apartheid).

Kofi Annan won it in 2001 for his work in the United Nations.

And more recently, Al Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts on the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change.
