Being an only child is awful! Don't tell anyone this, but when I was younger, they used to refer to the dog as my brother... not a compliment at all! Your brother is tricking you on letting the dog in... I was having to let 'my brother' in. And there is no handing off the chores to someone else as an only child! I am so jealous.
