No, I’m just kidding. But I did put two contacts in the same eye this morning, which equates to the same thing. I was confused because I couldn’t see clearly when I should have been able to, and I especially couldn’t figure out why one eye suddenly seemed worse than usual. It was an odd moment.

But my last final is tomorrow, and then I get to go home!

So when normal people are riding a bike, if they fall, they are likely to fall off the bike, right? Not me. I’m so awkward that I didn’t fall off the bike. I fell off of a curb while I was walking my bike across the street. I even scraped my knees. I felt very five-year-old last night. I’m kind of upset because I had just gotten rid of all of the bruises I had (there were very many). Then this happens.

Anyway, I was thinking last night while I was riding home about how much I love having the room to myself. Being alone is sometimes refreshing. I could even call it an escape. You learn a lot about yourself when you’re alone. You think more and talk less (though in my case, it may be the other way around). Solitude is good for you; if you can’t stand yourself, how can you expect any body else to stand you?

I had the oddest experience last night while I was sleeping-I was awake! It sounds so confusing to say, much less understand. It was 1:30 in the morning, the lights were out, I was asleep and dreaming (I wish I could remember what I dreamt about; it might make this sound more plausible), and Aly and Kaileigh were awake. I remember, despite my supposedly unconscious state, whispers drawing me out of sleep and then being able to understand what they were saying. I wasn’t fully awake; I was still dreaming while this was happening. Kaileigh and Aly were having some kind of conversation about something they thought was funny because I could hear the laughter in their voices. All while I’m still in the middle of my dream. Can’t forget that detail. Then, I heard part of something Kaileigh whispered because my name was involved: “…tag Jana…” That’s all I heard. Well, hearing my name snapped me out of whatever dream I was having, and I became more alert: fully awake rather than half conscious. And I said, “Why are we tagging me?” Just imagine the shock that rippled through the both of them at that moment. Naturally, neither of them knew I was awake and listening (I’m not even sure I was at first). Once the shock passed, they started laughing uproariously to dispel whatever fear the surprise of hearing my voice produced in them.

Needless to say, it was an interesting experience and one that I don’t understand. Maybe it was the whispers; they’re more likely to draw me out of sleep than soft talk. But maybe someone could explaing to me how I was awake and dreaming at the same time?

Someone I know told me today how her nine year old son recently realized Santa Claus wasn’t real. He wanted to see the movie Fred Claus and because he wanted to see it, he wanted to learn about it. So he read a newspaper article. The article was an interview with Vince Vaughn saying how he had learned that Santa didn’t exist. That went over well……

I learned Santa wasn’t real in an odd way, too. I was 8 years old and I was playing with a teddy bear that I distinctly remembered getting from Santa Claus at Christmas. I looked at the tag for some reason and it said “Made in China.” Now, I was a smart kid, so I knew that Santa made his toys in the North Pole, not in China. So I went to ask my mom why it said “Made in China.” The look on her face told me everything I needed to know. She tried to give me a reasonable explanation, but it wasn’t working; I knew and she knew I knew. I cried so hard! It was even more distressing because logical thought naturally led me to the realization that the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy didn’t exist either. Talk about disillusionment. So Mom had to change tactics; instead of telling me he existed, she told me the Spirit of Santa existed. I’ll never forget this because I think it eased my acceptance of Santa’s non-existence (is that a word?). She told me that as long as the spirit of giving existed, so would the spirit of Santa. I liked that idea, and it’s what I’ve believed ever since.

If anyone has any interesting stories about their own disillusionment, I would love to hear it.

I went out to lunch with Brittany, Maria, and Holly.

I went on a man-hunt.

My Don Quixote reading assignment was reduced from reading the whole book to the first part by Monday.

I got to dress as a kid for Halloween.

I got in trouble for talking to Brittany about a poem in Studies in Poetry.

My Medieval Rennaissance class was canceled on Friday.

I met Aly’s Dmitri.

My cell phone changed for Daylight Savings Time all by itself.

I got to eat breakfast with Aly two days in a row.

The back brake on my bike broke (try saying that five times fast).

I got to carry a ten pound, $135 book about Ralph Lauren downstairs at Barnes and Noble.

I read a book called To Hell With Love. It was good. I wanted to buy it. But I didn’t because I’m a responsible adult who only buys necessary things (my mantra). Therefore, I was forced to stay late at work and finish it…in a very comfy sofa.

And finally, I pummeled Aly with marshmallows.

Just so you know, I love Yahoo! articles. Here’s another one I found yesterday. It’s called “Are They Lying to You?” It describes signs to look for when you suspect someone isn’t telling you the truth. I thought number one was especially interesting, and it is the only reason I’m writing this particular blog. It says that when a person lies, tissues in the nose “engorge with blood.” While I was reading it, I realized engorged = swell, i.e., gets bigger. Whoever wrote Pinnochio was onto something! I never knew there was some truth to the claim that a liar’s nose grows. Of course, it’s imperceptible in people, but on something made of wood, it might be more apparent. Of course now I’m delving into a whole fantasy realm, but the point is, there really is something behind it and I found that interesting. And if you don’t find it interesting, at least the article might be useful!
