Quote of the Week: Oct. 24-30th

by Arianna Nicolette Shaffer | October 23, 2011

“What we need to do is learn to respect and embrace our differences until our differences don’t make a difference in how we are treated.” -Yolanda King

I tend to think a lot about world peace and why there is such a significant lack of it.  What is the reason for people and countries fighting with one another?  There is a great need of improvement in our world today when it comes to tackling world peace!

-In my world religions class here at Lynn University I’ve learned that a lot of war and arguments often are caused between people who have different cultures, ethnicities, and beliefs/religions.   My professor explained during class that the reason why it’s so necessary to learn about “World Religions” and our worldly cultures is because it gives us an understanding of other people who are different from our own individual selves, which allows us to be more embracing to others.  These days you can’t pick up a newspaper without reading about confrontations between different cultures…People argue because they aren’t open to hearing or learning about different things, or cannot accept someone else’s beliefs that are different from their own.

I was motivated to find a quote like this after watching this video below, which truly touched my heart, and even made me want to become more loving, and embracing to others. I really hope everybody reading my blog watches this video!!!

I live for the day that people start putting differences aside and accepting people for who they are and just loving one another.  By doing so, you could find the world’s best friend who is completely opposite from you such as the example in this video with the elephant and the dog.  I hope this quote and this video motivates you to be more accepting of others, and open to new things!! Embrace all people, and all cultures- it’s the solution to creating peace! Mahatma Gandhi once said “be the change you wish to see in the world” – and that change first has to start with YOU!!!

Hope everybody has a beautiful week :)

Quote of the Week: April 18th-24

by Arianna Nicolette Shaffer | April 17, 2011

accomplish-goal-800X800“Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” -Michael Jordan

This week’s quote is to remind you to always keep your eyes on the prize with the things that you want in life, and to never lose your determination when you may feel like giving up because its the easiest thing to do.

When we as individuals reach obstacles in our life on a daily basis its important for us to deal with it in the right way and to figure out a way around it or a solution for it.  There is a solution to everything, we just have to stop, re-focus and see what else we can do to fix that obstacle or try something else that we haven’t tried doing yet.

-I admit that I strongly do not like dealing with obstacles.  Stopping and giving up would be the easiest solution I have realized, but does it get us anywhere? -NO!  If life was easy and simple everybody in the world would be happy and content, there would be no poverty, no drama, no war, etc.  However, that is not the case.  Life is a challenge and its up to each individual on how they deal with it, and how they overcome it.  Look at Donald Trump for instance, there has been many numerous times where he has risen to success then fallen, but he has never stopped, has never given up.  He has figured out a solution to rise back up after he falls.  Also, you can even look at Bethany Hamilton in the above movie trailer, who is a perfect example.  She was an amazing surfer, but lost her arm which was such a rough obstacle to face.  The easiest solution would have been giving up on surfing and throwing her surfing dreams away, but she saw this as a challenge and found a solution to surf again.  She never gave up, she stayed determined!

-If you had a not so great week last week or ran into any obstacles, then take this week as a fresh new start to try out new things, and think of new solutions to reach your goals and overcome any sort of challenge.  This week, remember that obstacles are bound to happen, but its how we handle it.  Look at challenges and obstacles as a good thing- they only make you stronger!  Its not about how hard you fall, its about how you get yourself back up.

Always remember that a negative situation can always be turned into a positive situation, its all a matter of how to deal with it.

Quote of The Week: April 11th-17th

by Arianna Nicolette Shaffer | April 10, 2011

tumblr_leiqyc3WZZ1qczjnio1_500“Your Life is your message to the world. Make it Inspiring.” -Lorrin L Lee

The meaning of this weeks quote is for you to understand that the way you live your life is the message you portray about yourself.  By making your words, daily activities, and actions positive, it sends a message to others that could even impact an individual to maybe even want to live the same.

It’s inevitable for people to judge you for who you are and what you do, without even really knowing you.  Everybody has different messages they want to send to the world, different goals, and different aspirations.  But one common thread is that we all want to be HAPPY at the end of the day.  How you live your life can greatly influence others, and can greatly inspire others.  Live it in a positive way, and live it to its fullest.  Create a message that changes lives for others.  As Mahatma Gandhi once said “you must be the change you wish to see in the world.”

The way I live my life is with hard work, dedication, and an aspiration to be successful in everyway possible and to never give up when the going gets rough.  My message to the world is that the sky is the limit for everybody as long as we try and never give up, and I personally only hope to inspire others to have ambition like myself.  Living a life of love and generosity is very important to me as well.  I love helping others and I hope it can only inspire people.  Our figure prints will never fade on the lives we touch…so make those fingerprints inspiring, so that they last forever.

Last week at Lynn University, The Buried Life boys made a visit to our campus.  They explained who they were and how they live everyday to its fullest.  The explained how they had a bucket list of things they all want to do before they die, and will never give up on achieving everything on this list.  As a result, their own messages to many fans has greatly influenced and inspired others to create a bucket list, and accomplish everything on it.  Their message on how they live their life has even saved others from depression, addiction, and many other things.  These boys have helped turn so many peoples lives around to a path of success.

How do you want to live your life? what do you want to do before you die?

Start your week off in a great way.  Create a bucket list if you have to. Live your life to inspire others; you never know how influential you may be.  YOU could be the reason for someone’s path to success.

Quote of The Week: April 4th-10th

by Arianna Nicolette Shaffer | April 3, 2011

“Intense desire not only creates its own possibilities, but its own talents.  Don’t be afraid to do something just because it’s impossible.” – Kobi Yamada

The meaning of this weeks quote is to inspire you and motivate you to do the impossible and to never limit yourself of anything.  If you have talent, don’t put it to waste, do something with it!

We all have wild and creative idea’s, but the reason why we never try doing certain things is because we believe that it is simply impossible and not worth even trying or risking because it’s “impossible”.

When we have a strong passion or desire to achieve something, why not give it our all?

- To me NOTHING is impossible.  We are ALL perfectly capable of doing anything, getting anything, and achieving anything.

A perfect example of achieving something that almost seemed impossible in a particular moment was October 6, 2001 When David Beckham scored a last minute memorable free kick that booked England into the World Cup finals.   England was losing 2-1 and needed to Equalize the game otherwise they would be out of the competition, so Beckham stepped up and showed desire and passion to try to make what seemed like an impossible goal in the last kick of the game.  But sure enough with his intense desire to do the impossible he managed to make it possible to score for England.

-Its moments like this that bring out your true desires and talents to do anything

Remember: The sky is the limit for every single one of us, go out this week and make the impossible POSSIBLE!!!

Have a great week!!!!

Quote of the Week: March 28th – April 3rd

by Arianna Nicolette Shaffer | March 27, 2011

“Life is not measured by the breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away” – George Carlin

I wish everybody a positive week, and to look for ordinary miracles in their days: whether it’s finding your missing car keys, getting a good grade on a paper, getting amazing compliments, feeling accomplished etc.  But this quote is also here to motivate you to help out others so that other peoples week can be just as positive too.  Go out and not only do great things for yourself but help others around you, leave your mark in somebody’s life so that you will always be remembered for the things you did.

Below is a story that I came across and I hope you all read and think about the moral of it, and hopefully it will help you realize that  it’s not what you have gathered, but what you have scattered that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Red Marbles

red_marbles

I was at the corner grocery store buying some early potatoes.   I noticed a small boy, delicate of bone and feature, ragged but clean, hungrily appraising a basket of freshly picked green peas.

I paid for my potatoes but was also drawn to the display of fresh green peas. I am a pushover for creamed peas and new potatoes.
Pondering the peas, I couldn’t help overhearing the conversation between Mr. Miller (the store owner) and the ragged boy next to me.

‘Hello Barry, how are you today?’

‘H’lo , Mr. Miller. Fine, thank ya. Jus’ admirin’ them peas. They sure look good.’

‘They are good, Barry. How’s your Ma?’

‘Fine. Gittin’ stronger alla’ time.’

‘Good. Anything I can help you with?’

‘No, Sir. Jus’ admirin’ them peas.’

‘Would you like to take some home ?’ asked Mr.. Miller.

‘No, Sir. Got nuthin’ to pay for ‘em with.’

‘Well, what have you to trade me for some of those peas?’

‘All I got’s my prize marble here.’

‘Is that right? Let me see it’ said Miller..

‘Here ’tis. She’s a dandy.’

‘I can see that.. Hmmmmm, only thing is this one is blue and I sort of go for red. Do you have a red one like this at home ?’ the store owner asked.

‘Not zackley but almost..’

‘Tell you what. Take this sack of peas home with you and next trip this way let me look at that red marble’.. Mr. Miller told the boy.

‘Sure will. Thanks Mr. Miller.’

Mrs. Miller, who had been standing nearby, came over to help me.. With a smile she said, ‘There are two other boys like him in our community, all three are in very poor circumstances. Jim just loves to bargain with them for peas, apples, tomatoes, or whatever. When they come back with their red marbles, and they always do, he decides he doesn’t like red after all and he sends them home with a bag of produce for a green marble or an orange one, when they come on their next trip to the store..’

I left the store smiling to myself, impressed with this man. A short time later I moved to Colorado , but I never forgot the story of this man, the boys, and their bartering for marbles.

Several years went by, each more rapid than the previous one. Just recently I had occasion to visit some old friends in that Idaho community and while I was there learned that Mr… Miller had died.

They were having his visitation that evening and knowing my friends wanted to go, I agreed to accompany them. Upon arrival at the mortuary we fell into line to meet the relatives of the deceased and to offer whatever words of comfort we could.

Ahead of us in line were three young men. One was in an army uniform and the other two wore nice haircuts, dark suits and white shirts…..all very professional looking. They approached Mrs. Miller, standing composed and smiling by her husband’s casket. Each of the young men hugged her, kissed her on the cheek, spoke briefly with her, and moved on to the casket..

Her misty light blue eyes followed them as, one by one; each young man stopped briefly and placed his own warm hand over the cold pale hand in the casket. Each left the mortuary awkwardly, wiping his eyes.

Our turn came to meet Mrs. Miller. I told her who I was and reminded her of the story from those many years ago and what she had told me about her husband’s bartering for marbles. With her eyes glistening, she took my hand and led me to the casket.

‘Those three young men who just left were the boys I told you about. They just told me how they appreciated the things Jim ‘traded’ them. Now, at last, when Jim could not change his mind about color or size…..they came to pay their debt.’

‘We’ve never had a great deal of the wealth of this world,’ she confided, ‘but right now, Jim would consider himself the richest man in Idaho.’

With loving gentleness she lifted the lifeless fingers of her deceased husband. Resting underneath were three exquisitely shined red marbles.

The Moral: We will not be remembered by our words, but by our kind deeds.

Have a great week everyone!!!!

Quote of the Week: March 21-27

by Arianna Nicolette Shaffer | March 20, 2011

42-16875340

“Even if it’s a little thing, do something for those who need help, something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it.” –Alber Schweitzer

The quote of this week is inspirational words for us all to go out and volunteer and help out anybody around us that is in need.  Even if your doing something to help others but not getting paid, its still so much more rewarding because its coming from the goodness of your heart.  Help others because you want to, not because you have to.

Whether if its someone who drops their notebook at school, someone who needs help opening the door because their hands are full, feeding the poor, or donating clothes, we should all go out of the way to help others and do kind gestures to not just help a person out but also make their day.  Treat a person how you would like to be treated.  Make someone smile, make someone feel special, make someone feel cared for, help others.  The key to world peace is first lending out a helping hand for those in need.  We all have the capability to make a difference, so why not start out by making a difference in someones day or life?  At the end of the day we are put on this earth to love and help one another.

Quote of the Week: March 7-13

by Arianna Nicolette Shaffer | March 7, 2011

payneconservationsm2“Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.” – Carl Sagan

The meaning of this quote is to go where you’ve never been before.  It never hurts to try out new things, go to new places, meet new people, make new friends, and discover things that you have never known before.  Sometimes by putting yourself in a completely new environment or place, it could create your mind to flow with different thoughts that could inspire you with things to do in life.   So why not step outside your comfort zone? Challenge yourself with different experiences, you could discover so many new things that you could introduce friends and family to as well.

-       I personally believe that there is something new, different, and special out there for everyone waiting to be known.  There is a good, righteous path for everyone, we just have to take different leaps and paths to get there in order to discover something brilliant or to even discover ourselves and what we want out of life.  Nothing is necessarily going to come to you, you have to make it happen, you have to go out and find it, and find what your dreams, goals, and ambitions are. Go where you’ve never been before and discover new things and new dreams…..who knows….you may discover something that changes your life forever.

Quote of the Week: Feb.28-March 6

by Arianna Nicolette Shaffer | February 28, 2011

00046-LiveLaughLove“Life moves pretty fast.  If you don’t stop and look around once in a while you could miss it.” – Ferris Bueller

Some days it seems like the day will never end and it just continues to go on and on and on….

-After reading this quote it made me think, why do we want to get our days over and done with?  Don’t we want to pro-long it if anything?  I think many people (including myself) take life and our days we have for granted at times and we tend to underestimate how fragile and precious life really is.

If you ever saw the movie “Ferris Buellers day off” (which is where this quote is from), it is easy to see that Ferris was a boy who lived everyday to its fullest.  He realized that life was short and as a result he wanted to experience and do every little thing that life had to offer, so that he wouldn’t miss out on a single thing.  Ferris was someone who never let anything get him down or let anything and anyone stop him from doing a single thing.  He took a day off to live a little.  He wanted to live life, and he didn’t want anything or any opportunity to pass him by.

-Yes, some of us have major responsibilities such as work, school, families, and other things to attend to, but there is nothing wrong with taking a break every once in a while to: take a breather, clear our minds and thoughts, think about life and what we want to do, and trying out anything new that you have been wanting to experience but haven’t gotten around to doing.  Do whatever you want to do in life so you don’t have any regrets.  Life is too short, but nobody said it was impossible to do it all.  Live everyday to its fullest.

-When you read this quote, I hope it inspires you to stop, and look around at life, and appreciate every little thing that the world has to offer and may come your way.  Don’t let life pass you by, move with life, live your life.  Just love, laugh, and live, because at the end of the day you can never be too loving to people, and you can never have to many laughs or smile too much, or even have too  much fun.  Live life like Ferris Bueller, take the day off if you have to, and help inspire others to do the same.  Have a great week!!!!

Motivational quote of the week: Feb.21-27

by Arianna Nicolette Shaffer | February 20, 2011

Walt Disney QuoteWaltDisneyAndMickeyMouse

This quote is a great quote to motivate you to go out and achieve any dreams that you have.  Anything is possible and you can make any dream a reality if you just put in the effort and not give up.

“All our dreams can come true…if we have the courage to pursue them.” – Walt Disney

Its really easy to have a dream to do something, or accomplish something, and then put in all the effort and energy we have….but then fail.  However, if we didn’t fail at things in life then we would never learn, and grow from it. It’s easy to give up on dreams when we fail the first time, or even a second and third time.  But we don’t grow and learn from our experiences if we give up when we fall down or when the going gets rough.

– For me this quote does nothing but motivate me to keep on waking up each and every morning and pursue all of my dreams, goals, and ambitions.  I have so much I want to do in this lifetime and I strongly believe that nothing is impossible.

It’s also extremely important to remember that making dreams turn into realities requires patience.  Patience is a virtue and ‘Rome wasn’t built over night’.  Everyday you just have to pursue your dreams and just go for it, because eventually your dreams will come true.

Walt Disney’s dreams started off with an idea of a mouse (Mickey Mouse), and now look where he stands in society today! He left an amazing legacy all because he followed his dreams, and pursued them, and never gave up on anything until his dreams came true.  Anything is possible if you just believe and try!!!!!

Its up to you and only you to make your dreams come true.

Motivational quote of the week: Feb.14-20

by Arianna Nicolette Shaffer | February 14, 2011

kissing-kids-cute-cuddling

As this week starts off being Valentines Day, its important for us all to realize that not only on this specific day known as ‘Valentines Day’ should we be loving, but everyday should be a day expressed with love and gratitude that we have towards one another.  This quote of the week is a quote that should inspire you to make someone’s day.  Remember it’s the little things that count.

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest accomplishment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” –Leo Buscaglia
