BF Update
Your boy friend? Your best friend? Nope- your Bright Futures! To follow-up with the notice sent to our Bright Futures recipients, there are a few major changes to this Florida state-funded scholarship that recipients need to be be aware of. Those changes are:
- Your Bright Futures is now awarded to you based on the number of credit hours you are taking. For example, if you are receiving the Bright Futures Medallion scholarship that pays $95 per credit hour and you are taking 16 credits this fall, then you are receiving $1,520 through the Bright Futures program in the fall term.
- You are now required to repay the cost of any course withdrawn or dropped. Using the example above to illustrate, if you were awarded $1,520 in Bright Futures based on 16 registered credits, but withdrew from one three-credit class today, then you would owe Lynn University $285 ($95 x 3) because we are now required to send this money back to the Florida Bright Futures Program.
- Lastly, the Florida Legislature now requires you to complete a minimum of 24 credit hours this 2009-2010 academic year in order to be eligible to receive your Bright Futures again next year.

Attention Incoming Spring Students- It’s FAFSA Time!
If you are a transfer student or a new student who was not able to start school this fall, you are still eligible for spring term financial aid! To begin, you might qualify for our academic scholarships. Feel free to use our Scholarship Calculator for an idea on how much you might qualify for.
As always though, your eligibilty is tied to your FAFSA. So, if you will be joining us this spring, then please complete your FAFSA as soon as possible. Remember, your receipt of any form of financial aid is conditional upon completion of your FAFSA, save of course for ineligible international students.
Shortly, we will begin sending award letters to accepted spring students. If you are in need of scholarships, grants or loans to pay for college and would like to be aware of your eligibility, then please complete your FAFSA today!
Yellow Ribbon Program
Lynn University is proud to announce our participation in the Yellow Ribbon Program! This extension of the Post- 9/11 GI Bill supplements veterans’ new GI Bill benefits. Under this program, Lynn University has agreed to pay half of veterans’ tuition and fees not covered by the GI Bill, while the VA pays the remaining half. The result of this agreement is 100% coverage of tuition and fees for all eligible veterans!
To qualify, veterans must have served at least 90 days of aggregate duty beginning on or after the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. Eligibility is also based on time served. Please visit www.va.gov to determine the amount of your benefits.
We are actively recruiting veterans to enroll in our day, evening or online undergraduate or graduate degrees. Take advantage of this truly exceptional opportunity and reward for your service to our country! As a qualified veteran under the Yellow Ribbon Program, you have the chance to attend a private school that offers small class sizes and individualized attention for the same cost as a large state institution- don’t pass it up!
For questions regarding admission, please email admission@lynn.edu or call 561-237-7900. For financial aid concerns, please contact our VA Liaison, Ben Breier, at bbreier@lynn.edu or 561-237-7190.
Receiving Aid? FAFSA Required!
As detailed in various communications sent to both new and returning students, the completion of the FAFSA is a condition for receipt of any state or institutional funds. For any student who has received an award letter for the upcoming 2009-2010 academic year, this fact can be evidenced on your letter by the inclusion of the FAFSA as a required document. This condition does not apply to our international scholarship recipients, as they are not eligible to complete the FAFSA.
If you have questions or concerns regarding this requirement, please contact your financial aid counselor:
Ben Breier at bbreier@lynn.edu if you are an evening or graduate student
John Chambers at jchambers@lynn.edu if you are an athlete or musician
Karen Reed at kreed@lynn.edu if you are a returning student with last name A-L
Evy Lucena at elucena@lynn.edu if you are a returning student with last name M-Z
Travis Williams at twilliams@lynn.edu if you are a new student
Florida Aid
On this sunny and beautiful day in Boca Raton, I found a little time to slip away from a very busy and exciting Open House event here at Lynn. I’ve done so because I’ve received more than one question so far regarding state financial aid for Florida residents, and felt it important that all of you residents out there know the score.
Yes, you can use all Florida financial aid programs here at Lynn! The fact that we are a private school matters not. Florida Resident Access Grant? Absolutely. Florida Student Assistance Grant? Yes. Florida Bright Futures? Of course. Florida Pre-Paid? You betcha!
For FRAG, we will add this award onto your award letter whenever we see a Florida address on your student file. For FSAG, we determine your eligibility for this need-based grant upon receipt of your FAFSA. For Bright Futures and Pre-Paid, we will wait to receive your proof of eligibility before we award these funding sources, but once received, we will certainly add them to your award letter.
