BF Update

by Travis | October 9, 2009

Your boy friend?  Your best friend?  Nope- your Bright Futures!  To follow-up with the notice sent to our Bright Futures recipients, there are a few major changes to this Florida state-funded scholarship that recipients need to be be aware of.  Those changes are:

  • Your Bright Futures is now awarded to you based on the number of credit hours you are taking.  For example, if you are receiving the Bright Futures Medallion scholarship that pays $95 per credit hour and you are taking 16 credits this fall, then you are receiving $1,520 through the Bright Futures program in the fall term.
  • You are now required to repay the cost of any course withdrawn or dropped.  Using the example above to illustrate, if you were awarded $1,520 in Bright Futures based on 16 registered credits, but withdrew from one three-credit class today, then you would owe Lynn University $285 ($95 x 3) because we are now required to send this money back to the Florida Bright Futures Program.
  • Lastly, the Florida Legislature now requires you to complete a minimum of 24 credit hours this 2009-2010 academic year in order to be eligible to receive your Bright Futures again next year.

Florida Aid

by Travis | March 28, 2009

On this sunny and beautiful day in Boca Raton, I found a little time to slip away from a very busy and exciting Open House event here at Lynn.  I’ve done so because I’ve received more than one question so far regarding state financial aid for Florida residents, and felt it important that all of you residents out there know the score.

Yes, you can use all Florida financial aid programs here at Lynn!  The fact that we are a private school matters not.  Florida Resident Access Grant? Absolutely.  Florida Student Assistance Grant? Yes.  Florida Bright Futures? Of course.  Florida Pre-Paid? You betcha!

For FRAG, we will add this award onto your award letter whenever we see a Florida address on your student file.  For FSAG, we determine your eligibility for this need-based grant upon receipt of your FAFSA.  For Bright Futures and Pre-Paid, we will wait to receive your proof of eligibility before we award these funding sources, but once received, we will certainly add them to your award letter.
