On Your Way Up

by Gene | October 24, 2007

I took some of my clothes to the dry cleaners yesterday and when I got my receipt, I looked at the bottom of it there was a quote that I saw I thought was great. “Be nice to the people you meet on the way up, because you meet them on your way down.”

I think that this is a very true quote. In most professions, its not what you know, its who you know. If you are nice to people when you are rising to the top, if/when you start falling, they will help you try to get back on your feet.

There are three people who since I have met has been nothing but nice to me. One is our head basketball coach, Coach Scott McMillin, the second is Assistant Coach Tim Heskett, and the third is the other Assistant Coach Marcus Hayes. These coaches are ones that I would do anything for because even though I’m only a sophomore this year and they were all Division I basketball players, they are very nice people and don’t feel they are better than anybody else. I have even seen Coach McMillin doing the laundry and dry mopping the floor. In major college basketball, that is very rare.

So in closing, be nice to the people you meet on the way up, because you meet them on the way down.
