I hope I’m better for Saturday

This hasn’t been my greatest week. Saturday night my throat didn’t feel 100%, so I took a Tylenol PM thinking maybe I would be ok. The next morning I woke up and couldn’t swallow without any pain. I had a slight fever and just felt horrible. I didn’t go to practice since I was sick. That night when I slept, I woke up every hour. The next day we had an SGA Retreat. I got to Anthony’s house, one of our advisors, at 9. I couldn’t drink anything without pain or eat anything at all. Every couple of minutes I would get up and go to the bathroom because I felt like I had to vomit. After the retreat, I went to US Healthworks, a walk-in clinic, and the doctor told me I had a mild ear infection and a bad sore throat and prescriped me Z-Pack. I got back to school after filling my prescription and talked to Coach Heskett and told him I needed sleep so I wouldn’t be at practice, and he completely understood. Later that night my friend LeeLee, as we call her, brought me some ice cream hoping it would help me. It allowed me to get some food in my system, but still hurt going down.

On Tuesday, I felt worse and was having nausea, so I went to the Health Center on campus. The nurse said my throat looked really bad and gave me Pepto-Bismol pills. Then on Wensday I felt worse but without the nausea, so I went to the Boca Raton Community Hosptial, and the doctor thought I might have mono, so he ran a blood test. Luckily, he said I just had a viral infection, so thats why the Z-Pack wasn’t working, so he prescriped me with a liquid hydrocodone. And now, I’m starting to feel a little bit better.

This coming Saturday, both our game and the women’s game against Nova Southeastern will be broadcast online by the NCAA at ncaasports.com/dii as well as on TV on CSTV. We are currently on a  3 game winning streak and tied for 2nd in conference play.

See you Saturday! GO KNIGHTS!

2 Top-25 Upsets in one week? Believe it

20. January 2008 at 3:16 pm Category: Basketball | No Comments »

This week, we played twp top 25 teams on the road, #11 Florida Tech, and #4 Rollins.

In the game against Florida Tech, Ed Millard had another double double, scoring 29 points, on an almost perfect 10-11 shooting from the field and 9-10 from the charity stripe, and grabbing 11 rebounds. Chris Hall chipped in 23 points while Hans Schur added 11. From the beginning, Florida Tech led by as many as 8, twice. At the end of the half. down two, Michael Vidal grapped an offensive rebound and put it back up, missing, by Ed tipped it in to tie the game at half. After scoring first in the second half, we never trailed the rest of the game. Vidal and Michael Baptiste each hit clutch free throws to put the game away. Vidal also had a clutch block in the final seoconds.

In Winter Park, against Rollins, we pulled together in the second half to knock off the 4th ranked team in the nation. We were down 11 at half. Three minutes into the second half, we cut the lead to four. Rollins then pushed their lead to 9, but just moments later the lead was cut to 3. Luke Postorino then nailed a 3 from the left wing to tie the game, followed by a 3 pointer by Michael Baptiste gave us our first lead since the opening minutes of the game. Rollins hoped that we would miss our free throws, but to no avail. Two shots by Hans Schur with 6 seconds on the clock sealed the game for us.

In the second half, we shot 68.2% from the field and 50% for the game from the field and from beyond the arc. Rollins shot 26.7% in the second half and 43.6% for the game, which is a big part of why we won.

While playing just under 40 minutes, Michael Baptise had a double double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, the only double double of the game. All 5 of our starters scored in double figures as well as Luke Postorino off the bench.

Rivalries

10. January 2008 at 11:36 pm Category: Basketball | No Comments »

No matter the sport or business, there are always going to be rivalries. Wal-Mart/Target, Home Depot/Lowe’s, Duke/North Carolina in college basketball, Ohio State/Michigan in any sport. Well, Lynn is no different. Our rival is Barry University in Miami Shores.

Last year, we lost three very close games to Barry, more than we ever wanted to lose to them. Last night was our first game of the year against Barry. We were down by as many as 11 in the second half. With about 12 seconds left, Randy Jones went the length of the floor and hit a little floater in the lane with 3 seconds left to send the game to overtime. Barry couldn’t hit a half court shot and the end of regulation.

In overtime, we played great defense. Michael Baptiste and Greg Boxell drew two big charges. With three seconds left, we were up by three and Chris Hall was fouled hard and missed both free throws, but when Barry tried to throw a court length pass, he stepped in and intercepted it to end the game.

Our next game is this Saturday, the 12th, at home against St. Leo.

My Break and New Years

1. January 2008 at 10:10 pm Category: Uncategorized | No Comments »

Well my break was far different from the normal Lynn students break. The first day break started, we traveled to West Palm Beach to play Palm Beach Atlantic. That was our first road win of the season. After that we played North Alabama, which we lost in a close one, at the deHornle Center. On the 20th, we started the Pepsi/DoubleTree Classic. Barry University, the University of New Haven, and Missouri-Rolla participated. The first game we played New Haven. The first half of the game, we played great defensively. The 2nd half we played well enough to preserve the win. The 2nd game we played Missouri-Rolla. We played decently on the defensive side of the ball and great offensively. We were very happy to go home for four days on a winning streak.

We got back on the 26th, and went right to work trying to get better and prepare for our next opponent, SW Minnisota State, who has finished 2nd in their conference, behind Winnona State, who won the National Championship two years ago, and was runner-up last year after losing on a last second lay-up.  We played a good game on the 29th against them. Lynn led most of the game, with SW Minnisota leading at half by 4. We came out of halftime firing on all cyclinders. The game became tied at 64 with 46 seconds left. Lead changes and ties ensued for the rest of the half. Regulation ended in contraversy, as Randy Jones drove baseline and passed to Ed Millard waiting in the middle of the lane. As Ed was going up for a game winning dunk, he was fouled hard, but the referee made no call. He explained to our coaches that he wanted the players to decide the game, not his whistle. In overtime, we showed our excellent conditioning by outscoring SW Minnisota by 7. Ed and Hans Schur alone outscored SW Minnisota 12-11. Ed scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds. Hans scored 16 and pulled down 11 boards.

New Year’s Eve was a fun evening. Hans invited everybody over to his apartment, where his family was in town and the cooked us steaks and sausage. They were really good, and his family was extremely generous in doing this for us and being so nice. We all watched the ball drop with his family and enjoyed a great time together. Now, we go to work improving ourselves and getting prepared to play Florida Southern in Lakeland.

Have a great New Year!!
