Redeem Team vs. Argentina

by Gene | August 22, 2008

Today, I finally got to catch the Redeem Team play, and luckily it was against Argentina, which I thought would be a good game. And it was a good game. It looked that when Manu Ginobili went down that the USA would just cruise to a win, and they tried, but Argentina fought back and cut a 21 point lead into single digits. But the lack of depth and firepower proved to be Argentina’s downfall.

The US moved the ball very well, but at times tried to force things a little too much and had 15 turnovers. At one point Chris Paul tried to split two defenders and was called for carrying, and LeBron James had a two on one and the defender was shaded more toward the other player and LeBron tried to pass it to him, instead of just taking it straight to the hole. They have improved their three-point shooting and have been dominant on the boards.

Overall, the Redeem Team truely impressed me and showed me this team will not be happy with anything less than gold. This team is also impressing me off the court. They aren’t just saying “We are here for basketball and thats it.” They have been present and visable at many other events, had a charity event in Shanghi right before the Olympics and even visited a Children’s Hospital where victims from the earthquake are staying. I am proud to have this team representing our country. They have been respectful to the host country and the teams they play, and have not gotten a big head about their success.
