Five Times August
Ever since Armando brought back the Five Times August demo cd from NACA last fall, I have fell in love with the music. When Armando brought back all of the stuff he got from the NACA conference he gave each of us something to check out and get back to him with advice. The moment I got the cd I put it in my car and it is still there today. I never got a chance to bring it back to KAT and give my input. I was too involved in the music.
This year, as KAT Chair, I had the opportunity to bring him, Brad Skistimas, to campus and perform. Since the KAT meeting last Tuesday I have been in Orlando like you know. Taryn ran the KAT meeting while I was out and I am very lucky to have an organization that is made up of so many students who are dedicated and love to help out. When I got back on campus last night, I was overwhelmed by the publicity and advertisement that was over campus. The vibe for tonight’s event was very good.
When I showed up at 7pm, when I told all members to be there and when I was scheduled myself to show up, I was confronted about being there “late”. I really didn’t think I was late at all. Apparently Brad and his management showed up at 6:30pm and were giving Mark and the members a hard time. I wasn’t aware of that, and Taryn was there and fully capable for making executive decisions about KAT. It just really frustrated me because I am told to delegate and when I delegate and things don’t work out perfectly, I am to blame.
Being a student leader on campus is a great learning experience and can be a lot of fun. I struggle when people become hypocritical and look at me like it is my full time job. I work really hard at what I do and because I am involved with a multitude of things on campus I think I manage my time and efforts equally. Lately people have spoken behind my back about what I do and how I run KAT and it has put a sour feeling in me in how I am truly looked upon by others.
Anyways, on a happy note…Five Times August performed amazingly. We had an attendance of over 80 people. We originally were going to have it in the Perper Plaza, but it looked like ran was in sight and management wanted Brad to be in a covered area. We changed the location to the lake side patio and we had to bring the heavy stage from the Perper Plaza over there. The first trip Mark and I carried it. The second time Karina, Janae, Erica, and I carried it.
I had listened to the CD so much that I knew the words of most all the songs that he sang. I took Lauren’s camera and took tons of candid photos of the audience and of Brad to be saved for the Leadership Banquet. Right now our video that was taken is being edited so I have attached a YouTube video of Brad performing live to let you know a little about his music.
