SGA Reception
We gathered today in the 2nd floor of the library for an SGA reception. This whole reception was really for SGA e-board members to get to know faculty and staff on campus that we would be dealing with on a regular basis for SGA involvement. When we got here, we went outside where the reception was originally being held….HOT HOT HOT!!! I thought it was 110 degrees out. We ended up bringing everything inside. I knew everyone at the reception except for two people Evelyn Nelson and Dean Johnson. It was really a pleasure to meet both of them.
But it was really great to put a name to a face to someone who really affects my education here at Lynn University. If I can look at any department on campus and say they have truly helped me to the best of their ability I would say it would be the department of Financial Aid, under Evelyn Nelson. All I remember is the end of my freshman year and I was waiting to receive my financial aid package. When I received it, it was completely different than the year before. None of our finances had changed. When I contacted Evelyn Nelson and William Healy at the time I was as confused as of what happened.
I never expected the department of Financial Aid to understand what each question of the FAFSA meant and how it affected the ultimate answer in the end. What they came to conclude was the question that asks, “Are you eligible to apply for the 1040a or 1040ez?†The choices are: Yes, No, I Don’t Know. I happened to choose I Don’t Know. THIS IS WHAT AFFECTED MY EFC (Expected Family Contribution). By answering YES, it changed my EFC from $3,672 to $0.Â
Often students get frustrated with the SAS department and I am one to admit that I have, but in the end they can be very helpful. The amount of assistance I have received from Karen Reed, Morgan O’Sullivan, and Trevor Grafflin is amazing.
Mike was disappointed with the attendance, but I love the cheese, fruit, and crackers…the least amount of people, the more for us…

Joey – Man, I’m sorry I missed the reception. I heard it was great. Debbie in our office rubbed in in when she got back (I think she also liked the food spread). Love what you guys are doing. See you next time!!
