SGA Presidency

Student government began at a young age fdor me. In middle school I was on student council and in eighth grade I was the class president. When I moved on to high school I was secretary my sophomore year. At the end of sophomore year I ended up running for president against Chris Flemming who had the position for two years; unfortunately I lost. That did not put me behind in my search for leadership. At the end of my junior year, I accomplished my goal. I graduated from Nashoba Regional High School as my high school president.

Since I became involved on campus freshman year at Lynn I have always aspired to have a top leadership position. I acquired this last year when elected as Knights’ Activities Team Chair and as Associate Director of Business Administration. Deadline for SGA applications arrived March 17 at 5pm. I submitted no application and that was my intention. I really wanted SGA to be new leadership to foster new ideas and development skills within the grades. However, after no applications I became weary about the outcome.

A new deadline was set and still I was encouraging students to take this opportunity to become involved and engage themselves with student life. Monday morning less than 24 hours from the new extension and still no sign…I would not let this happen.

I was elected as the upcoming 2008-2009 Student Government Association President. I am so thrilled and enthusiastic about this amazing opportunity. I really want to bring change to the university and make a difference for students. Politics has never been an interest of mine so I am anxious to develop an organization into something that exhibits energy, engagement, and change.

I think this leadership position will really bring all of my leadership experience to a peak in my career path. I look forward to working with the upcoming executive board and I truly believe that this e-board will excel in all areas of leadership on campus. Taryn is taking over my position as KAT chair and she is the only one I could think of replacing me. Her ability to process ideas and plan events is amazing. I have no doubt in my mind that she will succeed and bring KAT to a new level.
