New Years in Boston

Waking up pretty early for New Years day. Usually I don’t roll out of bed until noon or one o’clock, but surprisingly I was up this morning at 10am. Boston was a blizzard yesterday. I got downtown around 9am and it was snowing lightly, but when I got back from picking Elena and Tova up at the airport, it was snowing hard and beginning to accumulate. Elena had worn slipper shoes because she didn’t have boots and had never experienced snow. She was slipping and sliding everywhere.

I love Boston. It may get frigid, like today, with the windchill and everything, but it is one of my favorite places to be. I think one of the best places on earth would be Boston in a warm climate. The degree of culture and diversity is astounding and unique. The snow continued to fall as we grabbed a cab to get lunch and other items for the night festivities.

Fireworks starting launching off as we observed them from our balcony before we quickly ran out to the Boston Commons. They were pretty sweet. Luckily we were able to see these ones because the ones at midnight over the Charles River ended up getting canceled because of the strong winds.

The snow was slick enough so I could run and slide in my workboots. First Night, what Boston characterizes all of their New Years Eve events, had so much going on in Copley Plaza and Boston Commons, but the frigid cold weather kept most people inside.
