Concert was less than 24 hours away. Everything was pretty much under control. Tonight we were getting the dressing rooms ready. I sent Karina with Mark and ten other students to the gym to prepare all the dressing rooms, make signs for the artists, and make sure everything was in order. Last minute advertising was done and NON-Smoking signs were made to go around the intramural field.

As they did all of that Taryn, John, and I made the run to the 24 hour Walmart. Each concert comes with a contract and a rider. We were responsible for everything on the rider. CrocsTour, One Republic, and Fabolous each had different items on their list of what they wanted.

This wasn’t as bad as last year. Last year Hinder requested Strawberry chapstick that was a particular brand and only that brand would satisfy him. This year it wasn’t bad at all, but at the end the cash register receipt went the length of fingers to the other side of my chest. We spent over $700 on what the bands requested. It was crazy going up and down the aisles and then managed to pack everything into a Lynn University van. I almost had no room for John to sit, but we found a place for him.

After 2 hours we returned to the gym where all our helpers were waiting. This year has been the best KAT members ever. They have been dedicated to this concert since the contract has been signed and it makes everything go smoothly. We color stickered every item depending on which room it went to and people just started running… 1am and 7 hours before Crocs Tour arrives.

Have you ever seen a comedian mix comedy, music, dance, and singing all together to humor a crowd? Eric did it. He had Karina up on stage with him dancing Soldier Boy, his version.

When he began to teach us a part of a song, he swung his arm back and slammed it into the plasma TV; unfortunately that wasn’t part of the act, but it had the students laughing hysterically. We had about 52 students attend.

Crocs NextStep Campus Tour Featuring One Republic with Special Guest Fabolous. April 21, 2008 at 6pm on the Intramural Field. Get your tickets at www.lynn.edu Students are free, guests are $10.00. THIS CONCERT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
Mark, Jen, Taryn, Mike and I went down to FIU tonight to check out their concert. Tonight is the first show of the tour. Crocs NextStep Campus Tour Featuring One Republic and Special Guest Fabolous was booked through Adam Tobey from Concert Ideas. Jen and I have been talking to Adam since the Fall and it was nice to finally put a voice with a face.

This concert is going to be amazing. Going down to FIU we were able to see what was going well, what we would do different, where the kinks were, and the logistics on how we would set it up on the Intramural Field. This would be the first outdoor concert. We realized that FIU had some problems with the stage production company which we were originally going to book.

The tour comes along with Guitar Hero and Rock Band stations for students to try. There is also a booth for students to turn in their license in exchange they are able to wear crocs throughout the concert to see what they think.

The Crocs Next Step Campus Tour is proud to be supporting SolesUnitedSM, the first-of-its-kind, recycled footwear donation program dedicated to providing new quality footwear to people in need worldwide. On each tour stop, donation stations will be set up so students can turn in their worn out Crocsâ„¢ shoes. Through the SolesUnitedSM recycling process, donated Crocsâ„¢ shoes are sorted, cleaned, ground into new material and manufactured into new recycled shoes. Once manufactured, the shoes are distributed to those in need with the support of SolesUnitedSM shipping and charity partners.

I am so excited. I really want a huge attendance. We are looking to publicize all around the community to increase awareness. Check out the sneak peak video.

KAT is always trying new events to get students involved and come out to have fun. There is usually always prizes involved. This semester when KAT met we were looking into a variety of different game shows that we would be able to replicate. Some of our ideas included:

Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?

Price is Right

Wheel of Fortune

1 vs 100

Last semester we hosted Deal or No Deal. This semester we tried out Wheel of Fortune. After searching the internet and bookstores for a program for us to use I finally found one that utilized PowerPoint and we were able to choose the phrases.

The prizes that we had included:

IPod Touch

Ipod Nano

Rockband

IPod Sound Tower

Simon Mall Gift Card

PSP

Godiva Chocolate

ITunes Gift Card

X-Box 360

Digital Camera

And much more…

Wheel of Fortune was held on March 31 at 7pm in the caf. We even had a real wheel. Mark was the host of the game and we were honored to have Dawn as our very own Vanna White. There were about 68 people that came out. It was a learning experience for us considering it was our first time. It was very successful. Many people had the chance to walk away with neat prizes. Taryn, the upcoming KAT chair, took notes on what could be improved upon and what went well. It is always neat to see innovative programming happening on campus.

We have been planning Lynn’s Got Talent since January. Karina has been the primary individual coordinating the acts and what was going to go on the night of the show. The niight was finally here and we were not sure what to expect. This is another program that its our first time planning it for the campus.

We had about 12 different acts. Just before the show someone came up to me really wanting the opportunity to participate and that he wasn’t in town when the forms were due. Never pushing someone away from being involved I told him to get ready because he would be the last one performing.

I went to the store earlier to get food for about 50 people. I asked all of the performers to enter into the caf to test the mics, staging, and the piano. When we opened up the doors I couldn’t believe what I saw…students pushed through the doors like the opening of a theme park. Students kept coming in. This was incredible. We never expected this many people to come. I truly believe that because students were part of the event that people came out to see their friends. We had 138 people in attendance. It was a huge success.

1st Place $300 Cash- Aijun Sung (Singing and Guitar)

2nd Place $200 Cash- Jory Block (Magic)

3rd Place $100 Cash- Timea Varga (Dancing) & Rob Brenner (Singing)

Funnel cakes, create your own candy apples, old time photos, and ten flavors of soda pop surrounded the caf patio tonight for our Annual KAT HoeDown. It was amazing. Entering this weekend, KAT is lined up for several events and this kicks it off. An amazing attendance of 393 people came out to the HoeDown today. It was spectacular. It gave students the amazing opportunity to hang out, listen to music, grab some dinner, and just relax. I changed things up this year by creating more of a festival environment. STUDENTS LOVED IT! I was walking into my residence hall when I overheard students talking to family or friends from home about how great it was. This is what inspires me to program for students and truly get students more involved in campus activities.

I thought Hurricane Wilma was scary but when a tornado sweeps through downtown Atlanta (exact location where we are), a tornado becomes terrifying. The damage occurring to the Georgia Dome and the downtown area is unbelievable. Luckily we went to the Atlanta Aquarium yesterday because it is closed now.

Hail just hit us like giant marbles rolling down a hill. Hail the size of golf balls continues to fall on our hotel and the downtown Atlanta area. Our hotel hasn’t gotten any damage, but we are under severe watch. We fly out tomorrow at 1:11pm, but I am not sure…

My grandparents have called nervously. I am continuously checking in with them to let them know I am safe…the conference still goes on, and showcases get better and better.

T-John E, one of the agencies we work with that brought ThinkFast, Tron System, and X-Treme Air to campus, invited all of us to dinner. It was a great opportunity to put a face to an email for once, but when we started looking at the menus my stomach began to twitch.

While we were at APCA, back on campus KAT was having a Java Jam at 8pm. This Java Jam was a little different that usually. Band equipment had been ordered from Zebedee Productions. Not being on campus for my event gave me butterflies in my stomach. I left Taryn and Jen in charge of the Java Jam and I had full faith in their ability to make it happen, but I couldn’t make my stomach settle.

I discovered that I have a passion for events and planning programs. I love it. From start to finish, I embrace every moment of it with a desire to bring successful programs to campus. Being worried and nervous over a program of KAT and me not being there I find completely normal. It really shows I care and that I want to ensure that the people I left behind to run the event have all the tools and resources needed.

The pictures and text messages were a great reassurance that I have members of KAT that care as much as I do. To see Jen, Director of Student Involvement on the floor of her office using a hammer to put something together for the event truly exemplifies the role of an outstanding, dedicated adviser. Mark and Jen have been a tremendous resource and are continuously providing support to KAT and I.
