SGA Academic Forum

With the second ever Academic Forum sponsored by SGA coming up this evening, we were psyched!!! There was a huge hype across campus for the release of the January Term Courses. VP of Academic Affairs, Cynthia Paterson, answered ANY question that students had concerning the academics at the university and in particular, the J Term. [...]

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

Since I have been a freshman I have actively participated in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. This year was no different. I woke up this morning at 3:45am in order to be at Mizner Park for the 7th Annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Freshman year I walked and ever since then I have volunteered [...]

Meeting with the President

I am more enthusiastic than ever to have my meeting today with the president. I have been looking forward to this since the beginning of the semester. The main focus of this meeting is to bring up concerns that students have addressed at Student Government Association meetings. The agenda for the meeting is:
Students Voice [...]

SGA not invited to State of the University

For the past two years the SGA e-board has been invited to the State of the University address, but this year that was not the case. It was disappointing and discouraging as I passed the news onto my fellow e-board members. A university cannot operate without students. If every student decided they didn’t want to [...]

SGA Elections Kick Off

I don’t think that you can walk around with knowing who is running for Freshman Class Representative. The competitive election among Denzel Samuel and Omar Herrera is getting heated. Both of them were in the Student Center this morning planning last minute advertisement with sandwich boards, posters, banners, and more. For the past two years [...]

Freshman Convocation Speech

As SGA President, I was selected to give a speech to the Class of 2012 during their Freshman Convocation. As most people know, it takes me a while to write a speech. It is something that I take pride in and want to ensure every word is truly how I want to express myself. With [...]

SGA Presidency

Student government began at a young age fdor me. In middle school I was on student council and in eighth grade I was the class president. When I moved on to high school I was secretary my sophomore year. At the end of sophomore year I ended up running for president against Chris Flemming [...]

SGA President Candidate

At the deadline for SGA E-Board applications the position of SGA President and SGA Vice President was vacant. I had some original thoughts to run for SGA President, but I wanted to give an opportunity to other students that may want to establish a leadership position on campus. However, when I was informed that their [...]

Cafeteria Becomes Chaotic

So the cafeteria is new and improved. It has an additional grille station, a waffle station, and the chop salad/pizza/Panini station has been centralized. It has created a more open space in the cafeteria, but lunch today was ridiculous.
It was noon time and it was raining outside which probably increased the amount of people wanting [...]

SGA Meets Early Morning

I am not doing so well with these morning classes especially when SGA plans a meeting even earlier than my morning class. I had to be up at 7:30am this morning. It was a challenge. I didn’t get to sleep until 2am and I have been going non-stop since the first day of school. Monday, [...]
