Coaching the Sharks!

by Ashley | March 15, 2012

Recently I was hired to be a 12 and under travel softball coach :) The girls are a great group and we have a great time together. They are an elite team of mostly 11 year olds who are playing second year 12. Which is pretty impressive. I didn’t even start playing until I was 13! We play an average of about 100 games a season. And we like to win :) They work so hard and they have fun :) I really enjoy it as well.

As a coach, I have learned so much on and off the field. It’s a lot different than things you would learn as a player. These girls look up to me, I offer them advice, and try to teach them lessons in life that they can incorporate through softball like I did. Now that I just wrote that, I feel old haha
We have some sort of workout everyday and team practice 3 times a week plus tourneys on the weekends. Most of the girls are playing ball for their school as well so they never really get a break! I got a great group of hard workers and I am so proud to be their coach.

Even though I have heard more “iCarly, Selena Gomez, and Justin Beiber” than I would like, I still have a blast and they definitely know how to make me laugh. I will definitely keep yall posted on how we do and how I overcome the obstacles of being a coach :) We were just invited to a national tournament in Texas this May as well! The tourney is ran by Olympic softball player Natasha Watley. So it is a great opportunity that we can’t pass up. Especially because of the fact that we were INVITED :)

Have a great one! ~Ash
